Screening or Diagnostic EvaluationEarly identification and intervention is profoundly important. Children at risk can be reliably identified by assessing emergent literacy skills even before kindergarten. Screenings identify those at risk for language based learning disorders. A medical diagnosis not only identifies if a child has dyslexia, it can help with accommodations and establish effective plans of care and remediation moving forward. We can also help generate educational plans for support and/or suggest the best learning models and educational strategies. |
InterventionWhen effective interventions are used successfully, it can make lasting changes in the function of a child's brain. Evidence-based intervention MUST be not only direct and explicit, systematic and structured, but also diagnostic and prescriptive to be truly effective, (OG Academy, 2020). The Orton-Gillingham model is the only evidence based treatment with nearly a century of successful remediations dyslexia. |
Screen and/or Diagnose
These services are a one time meeting and take about an hour to an hour and a half. It includes an educational assessment of the student and a consultation with the parent(s).
This screening consultation is perfect for families who worry that their child might have dyslexia but aren't sure formal testing is necessary quite yet. The purpose of the screening assessment is to determine the likelihood that the student has dyslexia (including warning signs, strengths, weaknesses and suggestions for academic support) and help them decide whether they should move forward pursuing a formal diagnosis or not. A diagnostic assessment is a more in depth evaluation. It includes a plan of care to be shared with doctors, administrators, and for collaboration with other medical professionals. The cost of a screening includes a professional educational assessment profile emailed at the end of the session for your reference. The cost of a diagnostic evaluation includes a medical diagnostic code, including a plan of care, and justification of recommended medical services. This will be sent to your primary care provider or any other professional requesting collaboration. |
Intervene
Effective intervention is imperative
For 100 years, research based, reproducible studies have concluded that children with language-based learning deficits require explicit and systematic instruction to rewire the brain for effective language acquisition through the printed word. For this reason, the world-renown Orton-Gillingham method is used. This method is explicit, sequential, cumulative, and systematic. The pace is set individually. Explicit instruction that provides the rules for decoding provides students with an “anchor” to aid in recognition and storage and is essential in developing effective neurological pathways. This therapy option typically takes about 12 months or longer depending on the student's needs. Insurance is accepted! And private-pay is discounted. Please call for details. |
